Carter Tanton

“Murderous Joy” MP3

Aug 10, 2011

Carter Tanton deserves a listen or two…or three. He’s played and recorded with Marissa Nadler, Lower Dens, and Twin Shadow‘s George Lewis Jr. He’s got a strong set of pipes and makes smooth indie-rock tunes.

The first iteration of his band went by the name Tulsa. They released the I Was Submerged EP in 2007. Tanton’s debut album, Freeclouds, drops November 15 via Western Vinyl. Many of the tunes penned for the release, and the album’s title, use David Bowie’s “Wild Eyed Boy From Freecloud” as a touchstone. After some label tomfoolery, Tanton’s sticking with his given name. Check out LP standout/opening track, “Murderous Joy.” It’s also worth more than a few listens.
