Elvis Costello (along with his backing band The Imposters) has announced a new album, Look Now, and shared two songs from it, “Under Lime” and “Unwanted Number.” Look Now is due out October 12 via Concord. Check out the two songs below, followed by the album’s tracklist and cover art, as well as his upcoming tour dates.
Look Now was recorded in Hollywood, New York City, and Vancouver, and was co-produced by Costello and Sebastian Krys. Costello was backed by The Imposters, who are Steve Nieve (keyboards), Davey Faragher (bass), and Pete Thomas (drums). It’s his first album with The Imposters since 2008’s Momofuku and his first new album since his 2013 collaboration with The Roots, Wise Up Ghost. Two tracks, “Don’t Look Now” and “Photographs Can Lie,” were co-written with Burt Bacharach, who performs piano on those two songs. One song, “Burnt Sugar Is So Bitter,” was co-written with Carole King. Costello wrote the rest of the tracks himself.
Costello had this to say about the album in a press release: “I knew if we could make an album with the scope of Imperial Bedroom and some of the beauty and emotion of Painted From Memory, we would really have something.”
Costello was recently forced the cancel all his July tour dates as he was recovering from a surgery that removed “a small but very aggressive cancerous malignancy.” Costello revealed the diagnosis in a statement on his website, where he wrote that he had hoped he’d be well enough to get back on tour, and he attempted to do so, but post-surgical guidelines have prevented him from continuing on the current tour.
