of Montreal Announces New Album
Aureate Gloom Due Out Next Year
Oct 02, 2014 of Montreal
In an interview with Stereogum’s Chris DeVille, Kevin Barnes, the notoriously eccentric mind behind of Montral, discussed the band’s upcoming 13th LP, Aureate Gloom. It is the follow-up to their 2013 country music inspired Lousy with Sylvianbriar. According to Barnes, the album is a deeply personal album that reflects the chaotic events of his life over the last year;
”... Every song there are a lot of starts and stops and moving into different musical styles, and different genres are referenced, and lots of different time signatures. It’s just sort of all over the place musically, and in a way it reflects the kind of state of mind I was in. One moment feeling, “What the fuck have I done?” and the next moment being, “Ah, I feel so liberated!” and the next moment feeling, “I’m the worst person in the world.” So it’s just reflective of that chaotic state,” Barnes said.
