If you support Under the Radar‘s Patreon page at the minimum contribution of at least $1.00 a month you get access to our Patreon-only feed featuring exclusive content only available to Patreon supporters. Today’s Patreon exclusive is a selection of previously unseen photos of Broken Social Scene from a photo-shoot Under the Radar‘s co-publisher Wendy Lynch Redfern did with them in 2010. While some images from this shoot have been seen, these are specific frames that have never seen the light of day.

The shoot was done in honor of the band’s album at the time, Forgiveness Rock Record. We photographed the band in Austin, Texas, during SXSW. The location was Texas Federation of Women’s Clubs Headquarters, a historical mansion and ballroom. The building was completed in 1931 and, as the name suggests, was the headquarters for the Texas Federation of Women’s Clubs. Now it’s often used as a wedding venue and since 1999 holds a swing dance every Thursday night. Under the Radar has done photo-shoots with other bands at the venue during SXSW, including Plants and Animals, jj, and Mew.

Broken Social Scene are releasing a new album, Hug of Thunder, tomorrow (Friday, July 7) via Arts & Crafts. It’s their first new album in seven years, since Forgiveness Rock Record. The band premiered a new song, “Halfway Home,” in March and the next day the band stopped by The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to perform the new single. Then they shared the album’s title track, “Hug of Thunder,” which features vocals from Feist, along with “Skyline” and “Stay Happy.” The album also features longtime Broken Social Scene collaborators/members Metric’s Emily Haines and James Shaw and and Stars’ Amy Milan and Evan Cranley.
