Paul McCartney Shares Video for New Remix of Michael Jackson Duet “Say Say Say” with Vocals Swapped

Paul McCartney has shared a new remix of his hit 1983 duet with Michael Jackson, “Say Say Say,” via a new video he just posted to his Facebook page. The remix was partly done by Mark ‘Spike’ Stent and swaps the vocals so that Jackson sings the parts originally sung by McCartney and McCartney sings the parts originally sung by Jackson. The remix can be found on the reissue of McCartney’s Pipes of Peace album. Check out the video here.
McCartney talked about how the collaboration originally came about in a press release about the remix: “[Michael] rang me up, and I didn’t believe it was him, so I said ‘who’s this?’ He said ‘Michael.’ ‘Are you sure… Michael who?!’ Anyway, we had a joke about that kind of thing, and he said, ‘yeah, I’d like to come over and write with you,’ so I said great. So he came over to England and we just sat down. I thought, well, it’s not easy to just sit down with anyone you don’t know and just write, start songwriting because you’ve got to get the chemistry right. But I thought, it is Michael - you know, I’ll just try! If it doesn’t work, we’ll just throw it away.”
McCartney’s chief engineer Steve Orchard helped put the remix together, which was built upon a previous instrumental remix by DJ John “Jellybean” Benitez. Orchard had this to say in the press release: “Paul remembered that there were two unused lead vocal performances by Michael and himself. He said we should try putting the unused lead vocals onto the Jellybean mix. The Jellybean mix is a 12” and is much longer than the original version. It was originally made by making edit sections of the song with different instruments being muted to make up new sections and then spliced together. I needed to edit and arrange the alternative lead vocals to fit the 12” format. We then rearranged the vocal sequence and inverted the original performance so that Michael opened the first verse instead of Paul, to give the song a different take to the original version. Then we added additional backing vocal parts from the original multi-track to further enhance the instrumental mix. Paul then said it would be great to get Spike Stent to mix the new version of the track to give the song a new vibe.”
Choreographer and performance artist Ryan Heffington directed the new video for “Say Say Say.” He did choreography work on Sia’s “Chandelier” video. “The Way You Make Me Feel” is one out of ten songs from Michael Jackson’s accomplishments that I enjoy. I find his music being very inspirational because of what they mean deep down. For this song though I find it being about what it feels like when you fall in love for the first time. How great it is to know that someone else might care about you just as much as you do. Finding that special person that finds you very interesting enough to ask you many questions about what you like. It is one of the best feelings to have.
When discovering that you feel more complete and less alone. You wake up knowing that you need to come in contact with them today because you have time that needs spent together. You might have been waiting all your life for this and now that it is there, it is hard to stay away.
Since they make you feel this way, all other priorities that you once had on your mind seem to not matter as much as it does to spend time with them. Bottom line is no one wants to be alone. Everyone must have someone. When you finally do, everything else involved with your life seems to have purpose. When you go to work. When you clean the house. The fact that you have a home. These are now nice to have because you can share them with someone.
This is the way you feel when you found her. The only thing left to do is show her your committed.
