On June 1-5, Marina Di Ravenna, Italy will host the fourth edition of Beaches Brew—a free festival featuring the Thee Oh Sees, Viet Cong, Shabazz Palaces, and more. To help get us in an Italian fun and sun frame of mind, we’ve asked several artists playing the fest to make us mixtapes. The next one in our series comes from Ought.

“This mix is all sun-drenched bangers and anthems, feeling hot and happy with 128 MP3s,” says Ought’s Ben Stidworthy. “However, I also wanted to avoid evoking Ibiza summer breaks or “spiritual holidays” in Thailand, at all cost. Instead, I wanted to do a mix for the first really hot night of summer, in some small bar anywhere in the world. Tried my hand at actually beat-matching so bear with me.”

Listen below. You can also revisit our previous mixes in the series from DJ Fitz, Afterpartees, and Moon Duo. If you’re headed to Italy, be sure to grab all the event details here.

Tracklist:

1. Django Reinhardt: La Mer - An absolutely gorgeous tribute to the sea. In my mind far more important than the beach, so veneration comes first.

2. Onra: Ms. Ho - From the Paris producer who can’t stop putting out good albums. This one speaks for itself.

3. Jennifer Lopez: I’m Real (Instrumental) - Pop gold with some production that is hard to argue with. The bass and flute flirting with each other continuously creates some heart pounding warmth.

4. Phony Ppl: Yesterday’s Lips - Lyrically it’s not very beach-like, however these young New York musicians really know how to create a mood.

5. Destiny’s Child: Lose My Breath (Reggae Remix) - The song for students around the world trying to finish that essay at four in the morning. Also works well on the beach.

6. Vince Guaraldi Trio: Surfin Snoopy - The San Francisco jazz pianist soundtracking Snoopy surfing. First track I though of for the mix.

7. Four Brothers: Uchandifunga - A song recommended to me by my friend who spent half his life in Zimbabwe and the rest in Hackney and Montreal. Lobster Shack and 1208 would have heard this one.

8. Swindle: Summer Fruits - One of the best producers in London right now comes out with a wink to Autumn Leaves that has some of the best drum sounds I’d heard in a while. It’s hard not to feel the sun in this one.

9. Riko Dan: Skeng Teng - Lovely track from the London City Warlord himself. Revolutionary gun-talk with pretty massive low-end.

10. Mystic Stylez: Feloneezy - Frank (Intro) - Calm exit by Serbian musicians from Belgrade. Lovely chords to wash away the night…
