As you probably are aware Record Store Day takes place tomorrow, offering up a whole number of great exclusives from your favorite musical artists. While the full list of special releases is quite exhaustive, quite a few stand out from the rest of the pack, including Jack White’s attempt to deliver the “World’s Fastest Released Record,” taping a live version of his sophomore album’s title track at Third Man Records and pressing and releasing it the same day. Also notable is School of Seven Bells’ Put Your Sad Down, the last songs the band ever recorded before the tragic death of bandleader Benjamin Curtis. Conor Oberst: Hundreds of Ways/Fast Friends, 7’‘: “Hundreds of Ways”/“Fast Friends”
Cults: Upstairs at United, 12’‘: On February 3rd, 2014, NY indie pop duo Cults put to tape the 10th volume of the Upstairs at United series of recordings. Presented here in full ALL ANALOG glory are live recordings of fan favorite ‘‘You Know What I Mean’’ from their self titled debut, ‘‘High Road,’’ and the wondrous boy/girl vocal fun of ‘‘Were Before’’ from their latest Columbia release Static. The closer is their take on the Motels hit ‘‘Total Control.’’ As consistent with the series these recordings were done live to tape above the fully operating presses at United Record Pressing then cut as a 45 RPM 12’’ EP for your listening pleasure.

The Darcys: Hymn For A Missing Girl, 12’‘: “Hymn For A Missing Girl” is a single, 20-minute composition in five movements from Toronto art rock quartet The Darcys. Never before released. Full RSD exclusive. Track was written/recorded over one during summer 2013 inside a barn in Grey Highlands, Ontario. 12” with full track on Side A. Side B contains 20 minutes of a storm recorded outside the barn. Packaging: Black vinyl with gold ribbon. Deluxe package with printless cover black w/ gold embossed/raised barn image. Project was inspired/based on passages from Cormac McCarthy’s Cities Of The Plain
David Bowie: 1984 Picture Disc, 7’‘: “1984” originally appeared on David Bowie’s “Diamond Dogs” album and draws its inspiration from the George Orwell book of the same name. It was released as a single in 1974. The b-side was recorded live in December 1974 on “The Dick Cavett Show” and has had limited release since then. This is the first time it appears on vinyl.

The Dodos: Yours Truly Session, 7’‘: In the fall of 2013, San Francisco-based duo The Dodos reconvened at John Vanderslice’s Tiny Telephone studio (where they recorded their latest full-length Carrier) to re-visit two songs in collaboration with the Magik*Magik Orchestra. Featuring beautiful new arrangements,
these special performances of “Substance” and “The Ocean” were captured on film by music website Yours Truly and are now available on vinyl for the first time via this one-time, limited edition pressing. Yellow vinyl with download code. “Substance”/“The Ocean”

LCD Soundsystem: The Long Goodbye: LCD Soundsystem Live at Madison Square Garden: The Long Goodbye is the complete, unabridged recording of LCD Soundsystem’s near-four-hour April 2, 2011 farewell show at New York’s Madison Square Garden. Produced and mixed by LCD founder and frontman, James Murphy. The Long Goodbye is the ultimate audio document of LCD Soundsystem’s now legendary final show. The album’s exclusive mix brings new life to every note of music played during the epic MSG show- including of course the performances featured in the acclaimed film, Shut Up and Play The Hits, which chronicled the concert by painting an intimate portrait of Murphy navigating its lead-up and aftermath. Neon Neon: Years of Lead, 12’‘: RSD 12’ with download card. 4 track instrumental-vocal ep from pop maverick Gruff Rhys and Electronic wiz Boom Bip. Originaly released as a bonus disc that accompanied their 2013 Praxis Makes Perfect album. A dark accompaniment to the lighter pop of the album, with chanting vocals from Rhys and more experimental production from Bip. Sounds like Berlin era Bowie / Eno. Lush ambience to get lost in. Redux of album art - PMP was an NME sleeve of the year.

of Monreal: Jigsaw Puzzle, 7’‘: On their latest full-length Lousy with Sylvianbriar, of Montreal adopted a new songwriting approach (writing retreat in San Francisco), a different recording method (direct to 24-track tape machine), and a fresh group of musicians. Paste declared the record “[a] stunning re-imagining of Barnes’ songwriting prowess.” “Jigsaw Puzzle” was recorded during the same sessions that produced Lousy with Sylvianbriar and is backed on this limited edition 7” with an alternate version of “Triumph of Disintegration.” Light green vinyl with download code. of Montreal: Satanic Panic 10th Anniversary: Featuring favorites such as “Disconnect the Dots,” “Lysergic Bliss,” and “Chrissie Kiss the Corpse,” of Montreal’s breakthrough album Satanic Panic in the Attic marked a slight departure from the band’s previous sound due to influences ranging from 1970’s Afro beat to 80’s New Wave.Remastered, 180-gram vinyl in a gatefold jacket with download. Surfer Blood: Pythons Demos, 12’‘: This is an exclusive limited 1,000 pressing of Surfer Blood’s “Pythons” original demo recordings. Available on vinyl only. Limited exclusive 2014 Record Store Day release. Includes mp3 download card.
