Son Lux (Ryan Lott, Rafiq Bhatia, and Ian Chang) released a new album, Brighter Wounds, back in February via City Slang. Now they have shared a bizarre video for “The Fool You Need.” Jean-Paul Frenay directed the black & white clip, which takes place in a hallway and starts with a man and woman emerging/being born from a weird flesh pod. Watch it below, followed by the band’s upcoming tour dates.

Frenay had this to say about the video in a press release: “Ryan’s lyrics are always very poetic and open to interpretation so I went with what it evoked to me. The song could be interpreted as a strange submissive love song but I found a deeper sublayer in it about the general struggle of life and what it means to go through it. I based the video on the circle of life and death. It’s a poetic allegory illustrated by this phantasmagoric hotel corridor that challenges our characters individually throughout the movie. The two are fighting their way to each other, reaching out during the climax—when Ryan is almost begging in the lyrics, singing the emotional sentence ‘Hollow me.’ I always get goosebumps when I hear this part of the song. It’s a lifetime struggle to find ourselves and find one another. Our two characters are representing this complexity of human relationships in a way. The endlessly repeating loop of life, love and death when all that remains are floating empty and consumed shells in this corridor…ready to start over again.”
