Post Pop Depression Out Now via Loma Vista

Iggy Pop
Iggy Pop released his new album, Post Pop Depression, back in March via Loma Vista. It’s produced by Josh Homme of Eagles of Death Metal and Queens of the Stone Age, who also plays on the album and co-wrote it with Pop. Now Pop has shared a video for “American Valhalla.” Jamie-James Medina directed the clip, which features model Ruth Bell with a screen superimposed on her face while a boxing match plays and then Iggy Pop shows up. Watch below via Nowness, who premiered it.
Medina commented to Nowness about the video: “I love Iggy Pop and I’m a huge boxing fan. I was listening to ‘American Valhalla’ and was reminded of this very low-key but classic fight between Dick Tiger and Gene Fullmer, which took place in Nigeria in 1963 and for whatever reason I found a connection there. There is so much history in Iggy’s voice and that seems to be a theme throughout his new record-the contender or the survivor or the last man standing. Iggy remembers watching the fight, which is incredible.”
Post Pop Depression also features Queens of the Stone Age/Dead Weather keyboardist/guitarist Dean Fertita and Arctic Monkeys drummer Matt Helders. Live the band is also joined by Queens of the Stone Age’s Troy Van Leeuwen (guitar) and Chavez’s Matt Sweeney (bass).
