Watch Parquet Courts as Puppets in the “Human Performance” Video
Human Performance Out Now via Rough Trade, "Performing Human" 12-inch Due Out August 19

Parquet Courts
Parquet Courts released their new album, Human Performance, back in April via Rough Trade. Now they have shared a video for the album’s title track in which the band are puppets. Phil Collins directed the clip (no, not that Phil Collins, although some of the puppets look similar to the Spitting Image ones used in Genesis’ “Land of Confusion” video). A press release says the video utilizes the German school of puppeteering and features “Parquet Courts as puppets, puppet violence, puppet sex, puppet/human relations, perhaps puppet love?”
Collins, a British visual artist, had this to say in the press release: “I was thinking about the track and how it paints a breakup both elliptically and with such devastating directness. And I wondered what it would be like if this drama was enacted not through naturalism or authenticity but through its partners in crime, doubling and artificiality. So puppets seemed an obvious choice.”
Watch the video below, followed by the band’s upcoming tour dates. Also, the band has announced the release of the “Performing Human” 12-inch, which is due out August 19 and “will feature an alternate take of ‘Human Performance’ as well as remixes of the song by Eaters and Chris Pickering from Future Punx.” And on July 14 the band will be performing on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. A press release promises: “expect a memorable performance of one of the most unique songs off Human Performance.”
