Broken Social Scene
Let’s Try the After Vol. 1
Arts & Crafts
Mar 21, 2019 Broken Social Scene
This Canadian indie rock collective needs no introduction as they have been creating a sophisticated and multi-layered indie/art/prog rock hybrid sound that has influenced artists and entertained the masses since 2001’s Feel Good Lost.
Let’s Try the After Vol. 1 continues the journey and sounds familiar without sounding the same. Essentially a four-song EP, the first track being a short 48-second instrumental intro, the multi-faceted compositions have been meticulously thought out and melodically put together.
The characteristic melodic components permeate through turbid sonic layers that include bouncy bass grooves, playful horns, jazzy passages, and even some wide open sections with strings, in addition to the welcoming indie aspects. The vocals add an extra dimension and some distinction to the overall sound, with both lead and backing vocal duties shared amongst the male and female members of the band.
Whatever the mixture employed on each individual track, the listener’s appetite for intellectually stimulating indie rock will be satiated as Broken Social Scene have proven their staying power with yet another set of gripping and exciting tunes. (www.brokensocialscene.ca)
