Clue

Clue, indeed based on the classic board game, fleshes out the enduring murder mystery from that game with more modern sensibilities. And, gosh, there’s a lot to like about Clue—the design is wonderful, the art (Nelson Daniel) equally so. But, frankly, the premise is a little tired, the “modernization” elements mostly amount to cliché, and even the comedic shout-outs to the related movie from the 1980s didn’t do much to increase my enjoyment of it. It’s just not that interesting of a spin, even if eternal victim “Mr. Boddy” is more fleshed out than ever, and a few new chromatic characters are added to the classic mythos. I wouldn’t say it’s disappointing by any stretch—indeed, I went in with few expectations. But it didn’t reach and out grab me; despite the nice visuals, it’s merely serviceable.
