Angels & Devils

Kevin Martin finally follows up 2008’s apocalyptic London Zoo with more thumping end-times fare. This time around he splits his cast of guest vocalists into angels and devils (listeners lacking an LP can pretend to flip one over mid-set). The angels side earns its name via slow-burning, lush, and dubbed-out numbers featuring guests Liz Harris, copeland, Miss Red, and Gonjasufi, along with a few instrumental numbers that burrow all deep and introspective-like. No halos here, though—the whole side seethes, ripe with unsettling, dark undertones to set you up for the devil-side beatdown.
Manga, Warrior Queen, and Death Grips ratchet up the devilishness, along with returning bad-ass Flowdan, who provides a welcome triple-dose of his staccato patois assault (accompanied on two tracks by some dark guitar ambience from Justin Broadrick aka Jesu/Godflesh). This side is where London Zoo fans will find their long-awaited fix, deep within the hard-hitting beats, chest-shaking bass synths, skittering hi-hats, and violent dystopian vision that makes that album hold up so well. With any luck a third LP will follow soon, so we can get just a hint more before the whole societal collapse thing. http://www.facebook.com/thebugofficialpage)” target=“_blank”>(http://www.facebook.com/thebugofficialpage)
