The Sasquatch! Music Festival has revealed the lineup for their 2016 festival, their 15th year. For Under the Radar’s 13th annual Artist Survey we emailed some of our favorite artists a few questions relating to 2015. We asked them about their favorite albums of the year and their thoughts on various notable 2015 news stories involving either the music industry or world events, as well as some quirkier personal questions. Here are some answers from Briana Marela. After self-releasing two small albums, in 2012 Marela was emailed by frequent Sigur Rós collaborator and producer Alex Somers, who had been passed some of Marela’s material by one of his friends. Somers produced and recorded Marela’s latest album, All Around Us, in Iceland.

The daughter of a Peruvian father and American mother, Marela grew up listening to a mix of traditional folk music. Though she took up the acoustic guitar and began writing her own songs in high school, it wasn’t until Marela presented and played a four song EP for a senior project that her classmates even became aware of her extracurricular interest.
