Back in August Elbow frontman Guy Garvey gave an interview with the British radio station XFM and said that he’d just put the finishing touches on a new solo album and that it was due for release in October. Now Garvey has announced on his official Facebook page that the album is titled Courting the Squall and is due out October 30 in the U.K. There is no news if a U.S. release will happen at the same time. U.K. fans can get an instant download of the album’s first single “Angela’s Eyes” when they preorder the album.

Garvey issued a statement on Facebook about the album: “Elbow graciously gave me some time to write a solo album. I’ve wanted to try for years and I’m really proud of it. ‘Solo’ because I wrote everything but I was far from alone. I invited my favorite players outside of Elbow (many of them also my favorite people) and we moved fast, drank a lot, and had what can only be described as a massive laugh along the way.”

Also today Garvey did an interview today with Shaun Keaveny on BBC Radio 6 Music in which he discussed the album and revealed that he was offered a role on Game of Thrones, but couldn’t do it because Elbow was touring at the time. You can stream the interview below, which alas cuts off before “Angela’s Eyes” is played. Following that are some upcoming solo Garvey tour dates in the U.K.

Elbow’s latest album is 2014’s The Take Off and Landing of Everything and they recently released a new four-song EP entitled Lost Worker Bee. Read our 2014 print article on Elbow and our 2014 web-exclusive interview with frontman Guy Garvey on his favorite cities.
