British trio Kero Kero Bonito have surprise released a new EP, Civilisation I. It includes “When the Fire Comes,” a song they shared earlier this month via a video for the track, as well as two other new songs: “Battle Lines” and “The River.” The EP follows 2018’s Time ‘n’ Place full-length and is out now via Polyvinyl. Stream it below, followed by the EP’s tracklist and cover art, as well as the “When the Fire Comes” video and the band’s upcoming tour dates.

A press release says “the EP explores themes from religion to the apocalypse as well as immediate threats like social division and climate change.”

The band’s Gus Lobban further explains: “If Time ‘n’ Place was about mixing up adolescent nostalgia, contemporary millennial malaise and the daunting near future, Civilisation I blows up that timeline to cover the ancient past of primitive man (myths, cave art and tribalism), the large-scale situation facing humanity in 2019 and the distant future, when humans have been wiped from the face of Earth.”
