The Final Volume Of “Have Yourself a Merry Indie Christmas” is Out Today

The Fourth & Last Edition Boasts A Mammoth 68 Tracks

Dec 06, 2024 Photography by Press Shot

The fourth and final volume of Have Yourself a Merry Indie Christmas is out today, capping off an extraordinary series curated by Kevin McGrath. This installment is an expansive 65-track digital compilation featuring an eclectic mix of indie Christmas gems from artists such as Grandaddy, The Raveonettes, The Lucksmiths, Sultans of Ping, Marsheaux, Lia Pamina, TV Smith, and The Orchids. Priced at just £7, all proceeds from the release will benefit Crisis at Christmas, very much in line with the season’s spirit of giving.

McGrath, the tireless curator behind all four volumes, described this project as a “labor of love,” despite facing personal health challenges along the way. Drawing heavily on the archives of Christmas Underground and taking inspiration from platforms like Mixcloud—including Andy Von Pip’s Christmas shows—McGrath sifted through a treasure trove of indie tracks. “I received a mammoth response from a wonderful set of musicians. A huge thank you to them all,” McGrath said, noting that even with 65 tracks, there’s not a single filler in the mix.

Highlights include Whyte Horses’ wistful “Next Year Will Be Mine,” Grandaddy’s irreverent “It Was a Silent Night at Least Until Jeff Lynne Arrived,” Marsheaux’s shimmering “We Met Bernard Sumner at a Christmas Party Last Night,” and The Raveonettes’ haunting “Christmas Ghost.” It’s a compilation that would gladden the heart of even the most Grinchy of Grinches.

Released today, December 6, 2024 via Bandcamp, the compilation arrives just in time for Bandcamp Friday—when the platform waives its fees, ensuring even more funds go to Crisis at Christmas. Whether you’re a die-hard indie fan or just looking for an antidote to the usual holiday fare, this album promises to deliver something special.

The digital-only album is released today on Bandcamp Friday 6th of December (£7) with any purchases on that day not subject to bandcamp commission, therefore raising more money for Crisis. Buy it HERE
