Mirel Wagner Wins the Phonophile Nordic Music Prize

When the Cellar Children See the Light of Day is Out Now on Sub Pop

Earlier this evening, Mirel Wagner was awarded the Nordic Music Prize for her debut album, When the Cellar Children See the Light of Day. Selvhenter’s Motions of Large Bodies and Iceage’s Plowing Into The Field Of Love were awarded honorary mentions.

The ceremony took place at the by:Larm Festival in Oslo, Norway. Fellow nominees included MØ, Lykke Li, and Todd Terje. The panel was comprised of Laurence Bell (Domino), Jeannette Lee (Rough Trade), Jonathan Galkin (DFA), Jude Rogers (The Guardian) and Andres Lokko (SVD). Of Wagner’s album they said the following:

“This album showcases a strong, intense new voice that feels like it’s coming from somewhere deep and true. As a set of restrained and alluring short stories, gorgeously sung and played, this record keeps pulling you back into its world. and, please, don’t be scared by the title!”

Wagner is the first Finnish musician to receive the honor. She will receive 30,000NOK. When the Cellar Children See the Light of Day is out now on Sub Pop.

Congratulations to Mirel Wagner for the accomplished. Getting an award like this for the very first album itself is a big accomplishment. Taking out the list of competitors she had, her work was outstanding enough to get this award.
