Australia’s latest psychedelic export comes in the form of Wunder Wunder the work of producers Aaron Shanahan and Benjamin Plant who recently relocated to L.A. Their debut, Everything Infinite, pays homage to the sun-drenched, dreamy West Coast environment they now call home, and it does so with playful throwbacks including vintage hooks, reverb-loaded vocals, heavy beats, and effects-laden riffs. It’s fitting that the opening chord of Everything Infinite sound momentarily similar to the T. Rex’s “Children of the Revolution,” as Wunder Wunder channel the glam of the ‘70s with a modern synth vibe and some sunny ‘60s pop thrown in for a dizzying mix.

Yet, despite all of its references to party music of the past, Everything Infinite is remarkably modern and Wunder Wunder cheerfully stretch out the boundaries of indie dance pop with a rich sound that fills your speakers. “Hail the Madmen” is a good example of their distinct use of arrangements and melody to pack a song with movement. The singles “Coastline” and “Sure Stuck” are both perfect for summer beach-time playlists. The album treats the listener to a relaxing comedown by revisiting “Coastline” with a reprise before closing out with “Dreams of the Fall,” a track of ethereal joy, ending a near-perfect album on a warm, optimistic note.
